Hello world. My name is Bilal Junaidy aka billibhai

My elders told me that we Junaidy’s are direct descendants of Hazrat Junaid Bagdadhi (Rehmat Ullah alae); one of the first Sufis in Islam who lived in the years 830 AD –  910 AD. Legend has that he used to earn his living from professional wrestling in Baghdad; I guess that explains some of my athletics abilities.

More recently though, we Junaidy’s are from Hyderabad, Deccan in India. My granddad in 1947 migrated from Hyderabad, India to Karachi, Pakistan, where we have been living ever since. Enough about my family history though, here’s a couple of things about me.

I landed in Canada on September 1 2013 at 12:30 pm. I came here to attend post secondary education at Wilfrid Laurier University. I graduated in 2017 and moved to Toronto to work at a mid-sized firm in Toronto called RSM Canada.

I currently work as a senior accountant here at RSM Canada in their Assurance practice. I recently wrote my Common Final Exam this past September and am now eagerly awaiting for my results. I am 24 years old and I absolutely love sports, but sometimes lack the motivation to play em. Distance running is one sports that I have been hooked onto for the past 9 years or so. I don’t know, but there is something about running that just makes me love it. Some of my friends think running is kind of boring since you are doing the same thing over and over again (Lap after lap), but I disagree. For me, running is more so, a mental exercise as much as it is a physical workout. Most of the time I am talking to myself motivating myself not to stop even if its hurts. If you are visualizing a scene from the rocky movie, then that’s exactly what I don’t look like while running.

I do watch sports as well, mostly football (soccer) and cricket. I “support” Arsenal. The reason for the “” is that I have been known to be a bit of a fake fan, but more on that later. My love for Arsenal started when me and my brother (Waleed bhai) used to play FIFA 01 on our PC and the first team to pop up used to be Arsenal because of its ordering of teams based on Alphabetical order. That was the time of Thierry Henry, one of the greatest strikers the premier league had ever seen. When the match used to kick off, because I had the easiest difficulty level on, I would just use Henry to run past the entire apposing team and score. And that’s the story of how my favourite player became henry. The 8-2 defeat vs United was finally it; I couldn’t support Arsenal anymore. Well, for the past 2 seasons I have been keeping up with Arsenal, won’t say that I have same level of love for them that I used to have back in the day but I am trying my best. Hopefully one day, I will get back there. As far as cricket is concerned, well I hope you can figure out who I support.

Head on over to the “Whats going on here?” page to learn about what I am trying to do here in this space and why I chose to do this in the first place. By the way, if you haven’t figured it out yet already, I support the Pakistan cricket team.
